Peace will hold in Northern Uganda – Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned that UPDF armies are on high alert with full capacity to crash the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) rebels if they attempt to return to Uganda with a motive of disrupting and terrorizing Northern Uganda again.

Mr Museveni was addressing over 2000 people who had turned up for the grand fundraising to complete the construction of the St.Augustine’s church Barogole in Lira town on Saturday where he donated over one hundred million shillings to support the building.

Hon Angiro clashes with police over arrest of suspected child molesters

August 18, 2008: It was on Sunday afternoon when the Erute North Member of Parliament Charles Angiro Gutumoi Abac-Acon stormed Lira central police station to accuse the rapid response unit (RRU) police personnel of unlawful arrest and detention of about 6 people suspected of sexually abusing a 10 year old girl.

Lira NGO to suspend operations over demo

August 18, 2008: The latest sleaze from Lira town is that the Restoration of Agricultural Livelihood in Northern Uganda a DANIDA-funded non governmental organization has vowed to withdraw from operating in Abako Sub County following the Monday’s demonstration staged by disgruntled members of community over low payment.

Young people advised to save for the future

The youth in northern Uganda should develop a culture of saving if they are to become economically empowered.

“The biggest challenge for the youth is lack of a saving culture. When they get money, they spend it on alcohol, claiming that the following day will cater for itself,” the youth Member of Parliament for the North, Denis Obua, said.

Lira district LC5 chairman arrested over alleged fraud

Police from Kampala over the weekend arrested Lira district LC5 chief Franco Ojur (right) over an allegation of mismanaging Northern Uganda Social Action Funds.

Franco Ojur was arrested and detained at Lira central police station where later he was released on police bond following profound interrogations by the team of police and detective officers from Kampala.
