Lira businessman to sue police over unlawful arrest

A local businessman based at corner Kamdini Teso Barr a popular Lira town suburb has threatened to drag Uganda police to court  for unlawfully arresting him and grabbing of his property worth millions of shillings.

Martin Onguu 31 alleged that police from Lira central police station on July 14 stormed his home late in the night and took some property amounting to over 21 million shillings without his noticed and later arrested him.

According to the detective officer at Lira central police station Maurino Ocaya said they acted upon the court instruction since he was implicated in the theft of about one hundred and fifty million shillings stolen by one woman. He added that the matter is before the court.

Investigations implicated Onguu Martin to have aided one Beatrice, wife to a prominent Lira-based businessman to embezzled over 150m shillings sometime last March.
