Nearly one hundred parents of Abur-kidi Primary School in Awelo Sub County Amolatar district on Tuesday evening stormed the head teacher’s office demanding explanations as to why their children are paying shillings 300 daily to a mathematic teacher.
Abur-Kidi primary has been a community-owned school but the government took over this year and it is the first time for their pupils to sit primary leaving examinations.
A mathematics teacher only identified as James Okun has allegedly been receiving money from each primary six and seven pupils to allow them attend his lessons.
According to Denis Opio 52 a local resident of Aburkidi village a parent whose child was chased and blocked from attending the math’s lessons told the Spotlight that their parents have not been consulted by the school authorities before inducing subscription fees on each pupil.
Some sections of parents however managed to convince the disgruntled ones who had intention of parading both the errand math teacher and the headmaster to the police station.
Bruno Obong the head teacher says he was not a ware about the charges by the Mathematic teacher however they were in the process of initiating some charges for the extra lessons to enabling those pupils to achieve better performances.
Some parents who talked on conditions of anonymity revealed that they have has collected up to 1000 shillings to pay mathematic and English teachers in the upper classes.
Jimmy Owiny a former P.6 teacher reportedly left due to what he regarded as poor and meager payment he was getting from the parents according to the headmaster.
The parents vowed to report the matter to the police if the school headmaster fails to provide proper explanations as to why the teacher has been collecting money from them within a week.
Mr. Obong Bruno however revealed that they have convened an emergency joint school management committee and the parents meeting.
