7 people killed in a Kitgum disco hall

The army is hunting for a Local Defence Unit – LDU – soldier who caused commotion with Special Police Constables in a dance hall leading to the death of 7 civilians.

Fourth Division Army Spokesman Captain Deo Akiki says the incident took place on Wednesday night at Omianyima.

He says the LDU one Opwonya got embroiled in a tense quarrel with some Special Police Constables over a lady identified as Atimango Beatrice.

Opwonya reportedly grabbed a gun from a drunk SPC and shot at the crowd indiscriminately killing the 7 party goers instantly.

Some of the dead were identified as Oyet, Omwony Vincent, Omwony Ocuna, Orach, Okot and two others.11 people were seriously injured including a Special Police Constable.

Captain Akiki warned security personnel against misuse of gun adding that the army will not condone any act of indiscipline amongst its members.
