Lira Resident District Commissioner Joan Pacoto has summoned the WARID Telecom area manager to answer claims of exploitation arising from his employees.

In a written directive, Pacuto wants the Manager to organise a meeting comprising the aggrieved employees, WARID Management and the RDC’s office.

Recently 13 youth who were recruited as Sales Agents lodged a written complain in the office of the RDC, accusing the area manager of denying them monthly payment and appointment letters which were promised during recruitment.

The sales agents, claims they are not allowed access to WARID offices on claims that they may contaminate the office.

However James Odongo, the WARID acting Customer Care Manager blamed the mishap on the branch dealer and supervisor, one Duncan for failing to be open to the claimants during recruitment exercise.

Odongo says sales-agent designation attracts no salary except commissions depending on one’s daily sales of sim-pacts and airtime.

Sales agents disclosed that in the lot of 50 people who were recruited by the company in Lira office, only 13 are still holding on to their jobs while the rest have deserted due to unbearable working conditions.
