WARID Telecom apologises for Lira accidents

Two vehicles belonging to WARID Telecommunications Company were on June 11 and 12 involved in separate road accidents in Lira District claiming one life and causing injuries.

A child believed to be aged 8-10 years was killed in Otuke County on June 11 by a vehicle carrying Warid engineers who were searching for a suitable location to erect their transmission mast there.

On June 12, another WARID service pickup knocked a lady and her child near Lira Military Barracks injuring both of them. The driver later rushed them to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

The company’s acting customer care manager Lira branch James Odong regretted the incidents on behalf of the communication company.

He blamed the last accident on the victim for recklessly crossing the road only to be knocked after driver’s attempts to save her failed.

He said the vehicle which killed a child in Otuke did not belong to his company but was hired to help them reach the area.

Consolation cash of Ushs 500,000= was given to the bereaved family by WARID. The company pledged to meet burial expenses besides holding a dialogue with the bereaved family for proper compensation.
