LIRA Primary school can now accommodate disabled children in school, thanks to funds from USAID that made it possible to construct a 5,000-dollar worth of building, equipped with modern disabled facilities.
The facilities were launched by Lira district sectary for education and health, Patrick Ayena Okello about two weeks ago.
The facilities worth 5000 million dollars were constructed by USAID in connection with PACT Omega through Mobilization of UCCYDA a community Based Organization in Lira that is collecting data on disabilities in the district.
The coordinator of UCCYDA Peter Otim said it was a great challenge for them to see disabled children suffering in villages without proper disability facilities such as wheelchairs
District community development officer Christine Anono said issues of disability are rampant in the district and called on supportive organization to help.
Lira primary head teacher Robert Okello Odiko said he was very happy for the donation from USAID.
