Many farmers in the north especially Lango sub regions are complaining of lack of cotton seeds for this planting season.
Some farmers have openly accused Cotton Development Organisation (CDO) of sabotaging cotton production by deliberately denying them access to enough seed.
CDO however blames the seeds insufficiency on seed rot due to torrential rain during the last harvest season.
CDO northern coordinator Benz Byamukama says National Agricultural Advisory Services-NAADS has failed in its role of to sensitize farmers on good planting methodologies thus resulting in poor planting by farmers in the region.
Recently Mr. Byamukama sent radio announcements urging farmers to report any ginner distributing seeds since it was centralized to CDO.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Hillary Onek blames CDO for seed shortage, saying government gave 4 billion shillings to it for seed procurement and treatment.
He said government will summon CDO bosses over farmers’ outcry for seed adding that government will not condone any activity which undermines cotton production in the region.
