Oyam, April 27, 2008: Members of Parliament hailing from Lango sub region have urged Paramount Chief the “Won Nyaci” of Lango to intervene and use his powers to bring together Langi who are divided along political lines.

The MPs under their chairman Ben Wacha of Oyam North delivered the call to the Paramount Chief over the weekend.

The legislatures were attending last funeral rites of their colleague Dr. Yefusa Okullo Epak, former Oyam South MP who died last year from a South African Hospital.

The ceremony took place at the deceased’s home at Aboloneno village in Loro Sub County, Oyam District.

Wacha says the level of divisionism in Lango is hampering development in the sub region and has reached a high level of hatred other than political differences.

Dokolo Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal used the memorial service to apologise to Langi for all her struggles to deliver the country from dictatorship.

She said all her struggles are earning her insults and abuses from the people of Lango yet she faced brutalities to save Ugandans and their land besides bringing multiparty politics in the country.

The Paramount Chief Yosam Odur pledged to address the problem but urged MPs to use their influence to lure investors who could industrialize Lango other than waging political wars amongst them.

Mr Ben Wacha should first show by actions that Langi can be united, most of our politicians say different things and do another, and the worst part of it is they are so .o.o. inactive. Who have been dividing Langi along party lines ? Not Ben Wacha and the group ? Now you have gone to bed with the very people who raided our cattle yesterday and plunged Langi into abject poverty and trying to come back as saviours. Wacha you and your team don’t deserve a platform in Lango region, unless you see this early and act, your politival career will end with crossing to FDC.

We need somebody who understands the cause of division. When one time the Won Nyaci said that those Langi in diaspora are proud and should go back home and that educated Lango women were promoting immorality I was taken by surprise. Won Nyaci has children and grand children in the UK and they should have been the first to go home to show an example. Besides, he should know that education is the key to development. Women should not be treated as subjects as it was in the past. Attitudes like that of Won Nyaci has kept lango undeveloped.

Thanks Masssey,
However we can not over look the fact that most of our young sisters are copying western indecent behaviours which is contrary to both biblical and Lango cultural norms, the only issue i can agree with you about Won Nyaci’s statement is that it was too general, because not all Langi educated women are immoral , some or even most of them are decent and am proud of them BUT others!!!!!!!!!.
