Amuru, April 24, 2008: A senior two student of Anaka Pope Paul II Secondary school in Amuru district was last evening beaten to death by a furious mob near Gulu high school in Bar-dege division, Gulu Municipality.

The student whose identity could not be readily established at the time of filing this story, died while being rushed to Gulu referral hospital for treatment.

Police at Gulu Central police station says the teenage student was attacked by the mob after he went looking for stolen properties he had hidden in the bush near Gulu High School.

He reportedly stole the properties last night from his fellow students in the same school where they are now displaced in Bardege division in Gulu Municipality.

Police said the boy drew suspicion of the locals when he started asking for the property on finding they were missing from where he had hidden them.

The same locals, who had earlier chanced upon the items which included several pairs of bedsheets, solar and hurricane lamps, pounced on him and beat him into coma.

He was rescued by sympathizers who took him to school but he died as he was being taken to Gulu Hospital.

The stolen items were all recovered from two ladies residing next to Gulu high school.

His body was found lying outside Gulu Central Police Station late last evening (April 23, 2008) as police recorded statements from the school authorities and area local authorities.
