Gulu, April 18, 2008: The minister for Lands, Housing and Urban development , Daniel Omara Atubo was put to task to explain why he was involved in the giving away of a chunk of land in Amuru district to Major general Oketta which sparked off land disputes in Amuru.
This was posed by the speaker Amuru District Local Government Michael Lakony during a one day consultative meeting held yesterday (17/4/2008) at the Gulu district council hall in Gulu town.
The consultative meeting was organised by the ministry of Lands to enlighten the people on the proposed Land Amendment Bill currently before Parliament of Uganda.
The Minister in Defence said he only requested Amuru District Authorities in the absence of a District Land Committee to use appropriate channels and avail the army officer land for investment.
He cautioned politicians in Northern Uganda against misinforming the public on the land amendment bill.
Atubo said he will ever remain firm on the truth urging leaders especially political leaders to be very well informed on land issues and to have all the necessary supportive documents and work or talk in line with what is laid down in the constitution other than relying on things that are imaginary or dreamt about in order to efficiently inform their people.
Atubo said the bill should not pose any threat because it is still under legislative process.
The one-day meeting was attended by LC V Chairmen, RDCs their deputies, councilors, LC III Chairmen and Civil servants from Gulu, Kitgum, Amuru and Pader districts.
