Aspiring Lira LC5 candidate reportedly poisoned

Lira, April 18, 2008: The Lira District Speaker Alex Oremo Alot was last week rushed to Lacor Hospital in a critical condition after taking a fanta soda that was being distributed to councilors during an extraordinary council meeting at Lira District Council hall. Poisonous politics will wreck lives and democracy

The callous and cowardly act of using poison or witchcraft to eliminate political opponents that appears to be creeping into public life of Lango is likely to damage the growth of democracy in the sub-region as this can discourage the younger generation from joining politics. Such a trend, if left unchecked, could take Lango back to the 60s when lots of people were eliminated or crippled simply because of having progressive ideas or because they were viewed as potential political threats. Lango leaders should put people first

A reaction to Hon Betty Amongi’s article entitled “Egwea missed several facts”

I wish to render my contribution to the debate prompted by Mr Egwea’s article: “Lango Needs a Mao”.

Personally, I believe that the article, literally or figuratively, has a point that is so relevant to our region and its people as well as our collective future. It is not strange to suggest that the level of intervention in terms of development initiatives in Lango calls for a concerted, deliberate and selfless approach if much is to change positively. Pact with FDC – a shrewd move

The recent pact by 5 Lango MPs (Ben Wacha, Cecilia Ogwal, Charles Angiro Gutomoi, B’Leo Ojok and Rebecca Amuge Otengo) and 3 District Chairmen (Franco Ojur, John Baptist Okello Okello and Alfred Adoli Ogwok) to work with FDC is a move in the right direction because it marks a new beginning for real multiparty politics in Lango, which has been a UPC stronghold since 1962. The people of Lango have never known what multiparty democracy actually means as a result of being coerced into having no party affiliations, or belonging to only one political party.
